Marta, Elena, Micaela, Mar and Pamela are companions of Repsol who chose science to be part of them from an early age. Find out about their stories and get inspired.
My greatest references have been Madame Curie, Leonardo Da Vinci and the books of Jules Verne, I found it impressive that a person's mind was able to imagine something, which then happens in future reality.
In the earthly world my father, who is a very practical person, applied almost without realizing all the sciences in his day to day, mathematics, physics or chemistry and that meant that from a young age he saw this necessary aspect of them. In this sense, I also remember that first contact of curiosity with science, in the kitchen with my mother I found it incredible that she laid an egg, beat it and made an omelette.
"Science has been a part of me since I was little. Choosing this path was a natural step to take in my life."
For Marta, the advice she would give to a girl who wants to dedicate herself to stem disciplines would be: "Believe in yourself, do what you have to do at all times, as if it were the most important thing in the world.
Think about what your vocation is and follow that path, because that is where you will be happy. "
My first contact with science was when my parents gave me my first microscope when I was 8 years old, I imagined working in a laboratory and what I do now is even much better, since we managed to get those investigations into people's daily lives.
One of the people who inspired me to choose a science career is Laura, my high school science teacher, a person who explained things to you with such passion that it motivated me to follow in her footsteps.
"I've always enjoyed asking 'Why?' about things and understanding how they work."
For Pamela, the advice she would give to a girl who wants to dedicate herself to stem disciplines would be: "Keep going like this, because you are going to do things very well, sometimes you may get frustrated, but you will get ahead and get where you want to go"
As a child, I wanted to be an astronaut to reach the moon, but even if we are not on the moon, we all do our bit to do something important.
A key person who has always inspired me is my older sister. When we were little we played together for many hours with a toy microscope, it taught me curiosities about nature, space... Today she is a great doctor and continues to be my reference.
"I was a very curious child, and science was the only place where I could find the answers to everything around me."
For Mar, the advice she would give to a girl who wants to dedicate herself to stem disciplines would be: "It is still curious that nothing is put in front of you, dare to do everything, because everything is possible with effort and enthusiasm"
As a child I wanted to be a teacher, I played with my friends to teach them. Now I continue to be passionate and participate in mentoring programs to continue supporting younger women to develop their professional careers in the world of science.
The people who have been key in my life to push me as a woman in science have been my mentors, college and university professors, and then in my professional career. Every moment of my life there has been a mentor who has believed in me and pushed me forward. My mentors showed me that being a woman and wanting to start a family was compatible with making a career in the world of science.
"My teachers were excellent mentors. They supported me and encouraged me to study a degree related to science."
For Micaela, the advice she would give to a girl who wants to dedicate herself to stem disciplines would be: "Never say no to yourself, if you have a goal you can achieve it as long as there are people who accompany you along the way, so it is important to look for mentors. Find out who you want to be in five years and get yourself ready for that goal. "
I have always been attracted to the future, since I was little I was already curious about what else will come, and when I had doubts about which way to go, my mother always told me "you have to choose something that allows you to be there, on the forefront of the future". And that path is that of the sciences.
For this, it is essential to have people who accompany you to achieve those goals you set for yourself. In my case, the support of my colleagues during the race has been essential, with whom I shared the same challenges and concerns, and my family, who has always been supporting me at every step.

For Elena, the advice she would give to a girl who wants to dedicate herself to stem disciplines would be: "Do not hesitate to choose due to complexity. Difficult roads can be paved, they will give you double the satisfaction. "
