Dual VT at Repsol
Dual VET is a training modality in which the school and the company share responsibility for the student's training. The student combines theoretical training with training in a real work environment, so that they can acquire skills and abilities to improve their employability and access the job market in better conditions
We are one of the pioneers in the implementation of Dual VET in Spain. Every year the company welcomes more than 200 students, who carry out their internships in industrial complexes and centers throughout Spain, including those in which we have launched our decarbonization strategy, reinforcing our commitment to integrating all our employees from the beginning in achieving our goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
At Repsol, internships are remunerated, in some cases according to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education of each Autonomous Community and in other cases by improving the guidelines of said communities. At least the student receives between 300 and 450 euros per month and is registered with Social Security.
We are part of an alliance promoted by the Ministry of Education to consolidate the process of modernizing an effective, dynamic and excellent Vocational Training.

Job placement in VET is very high and higher than university, with an average employment rate among its graduates that in Spain does not fall below 70%, and the immediate future will bring even more demand for the professional profiles that correspond to these degrees.
In the past, the majority of students who did internships with us came from the university level. However, currently, around 35% are in Vocational Training and there is a growing demand for profiles with higher degrees.
According to estimates by 2025 from the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), two-thirds of new jobs will be created for middle school and higher education students and another third for university students.

This year there are about 200 trainees with us, where students are also trained in degrees such as Mechatronics or Administration and Finance.
For Tomás Almarcha, Repsol Materials plant operator at the Tarragona industrial complex, Dual FP allowed him to turn his career around. “When I finished Ade college, I didn't have good job opportunities. After almost three years looking for and changing jobs, I decided to enroll in Dual VET, because you come out with your academic degree and, due to the hours of on-site training, also with a lot of experience. " When his internship at Repsol ended, Tomás opted for a position as a plant operator and is now an employee.
Internships do not commit companies to subsequent recruitment, but the incorporation of apprentices trained at Repsol into their job pool varies from 30% to 50%, depending on the year.

Tutors and instructors play a crucial role in this learning model. They must be people with professional experience, a certain pedagogical vocation and must represent the company's values.
In each area, a tutor is responsible for the trainee and proposes a Learning Plan or Contract with the activities to achieve the competencies established in the academic degree and the practical training in the position.
In coordination with the educational center, the tutor carries out the apprentice's training plan, as well as the follow-up during the course and its final evaluation.
We conducted a survey at the end of the internship, both students and tutors, obtaining very positive ratings. Among the tutors, 95% answered that they would repeat this work.
