Our Upstream business encompasses the company's oil and natural gas exploration and production activities in the most remote parts of the world.

How is the Upstream process?

Upstream (the name given to exploration and production) is fundamental to our activity, as it encompasses the stages of searching for and extracting raw materials for their subsequent transportation to our industrial complexes.

We identify opportunities

Before beginning exploration, we implement all our technology and resources to conduct geological, geophysical, and environmental impact studies that allow us to determine the area's potential.

We explore

We evaluate the characteristics of the onshore or offshore discovery to select the best extraction model, applying the highest safety standards for both people and the land.

We develop and produce

We build the necessary facilities to maximize the deposit's potential, in addition to performing various maintenance tasks to minimize the impact and safely transport the extracted raw materials.

The largest Brazilian pre-salt discovery

With resources of more than 700 million barrels of light crude oil and 3 Tcf of gas, it has been one of the largest discoveries in the world. The well, called Pão de Açúcar, is located 195 kilometers off the coast of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

Alaska Pikka, the story of a great discovery in the USA

Located in the North Slope region, this field, developed together with Armstrong Energy, had estimated resources of approximately 1.2 billion recoverable barrels of high-quality light crude oil. The exploration area, known as the Nanushuk formation, presented significant challenges due to the extreme environmental conditions, with temperatures as low as -40 °C.

A strategic discovery in the Gulf of Mexico

The well, named Leon, is located 352 kilometers off the coast of Louisiana, in ultra-deep waters of the US Gulf of Mexico, one of the most profitable areas with the greatest exploration potential in the world. With a total of 9,684 meters, it is one of the deepest wells in which we operate.

Other significant discoveries in the deep waters of Mexico

We made two important oil discoveries in the Polok-1 and Chinwol-1 wells. Both wells confirm an area of great potential, with excellent properties, finding a net oil column of more than 200 and 150 meters, respectively.
