We transform the future of energy through innovation and technology

Technological innovation is key to achieving our goal of net zero emissions by 2050. To achieve this, we have two key tools: our R&D center, Repsol Technology Lab, and our open innovation model.

Repsol Technology Lab

The largest private R&D center in Spain, where we develop technologies to reach our goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

Low carbon and circular economy

Renewable fuels, renewable hydrogen, or CO2 capture and use, as drivers to transform the industry and reduce the carbon footprint.

Advanced mobility

We work on the development of technologies for a responsible mobility, household energy management, energy efficiency, and renewables.

Asset optimization

Artificial intelligence, IoT, machine learning, or robotics are the tools that allow us to accelerate the transformation of our plants and industrial processes.

A story of continuous innovation

The innovative spirit of the Repsol Technology Lab has been present in our DNA since the beginning and has always been the driving force behind the company's energy and digital transformation.

    • first research center opens in Madrid.
    • Commitment to shale oil distillation.
    • Cutting-edge experimentation with the Puertollano Pilot Plants.
    • The Testing Statio at the Research Center goes into service.
    • Facility adaptation and researcher training in the assessment of crude oil and optimization of the refining process.
    • The Repsol Technology Center opens, with the most advanced laboratories and pilot plants in the exploration and drilling sector (Downstream).
    • New laboratories are created to improve research in exploration and production, noteworthy amongst which is the first fluid analysis laboratory of Spain.
    • Creation of the New Energies department, endowed with an investment fund for renewable energies and biofuels.
    • New Energies becomes known as Emerging Business and seeks investment in technologies that help with Repsol's business.
    • First of the five MotoGP Championships won using the lubricants and gasolines created by Repsol Technology Lab.
    • Great advances in sustainable mobility with research that preserves the conditions of a new engine, improvements in electric car batteries, and an AutoGas (LPG) engine prototype.
    • New Repsol Neotech fuels and an AutoGas (LPG) engine prototype with direct injection.
    • First five-year investment plan (2016-2020) at Repsol Corporate Venturing (previously Emerging Business), endowed with 85 million euros.
    • Repsol launches 100 octane gasoline, developed entirely by Tech Lab.
    • Repsol works with the cutting-edge artificial biology project headed by the Spanish scientist Juan Pérez-Mercader at Harvard University (USA).
    • We launched All4Zero, a unique industrial technology innovation hub in Spain, together with ArcelorMittal, Holcim, and Iberia, which started at Repsol.
    • We have been awarded the 2024 National Innovation and Design Award in the Great Innovative Company category, granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities.
