Guyana is an up-and-coming country with great energy potential and significant energy resources since companies in the sector announced the success of their discoveries in 2017. It is located on the northern, Atlantic coast of South America, bordering Venezuela and Brazil.
We have been present in Guyana since 1997 with a variety of upstream projects, where we are leaders in hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation through the Kanuku block, which is located in the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo region.

Committed to growth
Our aim in Guyana is to become a socially responsible company. We firmly believe that our activities should contribute to the community’s socio-economic development, through transparent communication and by using local resources and supporting actions that improve the quality of the local community.
Repsol has been a sponsor of the Mining Week organized by the Guyana’s Geology and Mining Commission for years, and we have also supported the GIPEX Conference as Gold Sponsors. In addition, we sponsored the ICT Project developed by the Ministry of Telecommunications, and we continue to lend support to other valuable local initiatives.
Protecting the environment
At Iwokrama International Centre we updated the 1999 Guide to the Mammals of Iwokrama Forest and committed to continue the series to protect the fauna and flora in the area.
We have been donating textbooks and computers to Guyana’s National Library for years. Alongside our contributions to refurbishing the building in Georgetown, we have also organized various library reading initiatives such as competitions and elocution events.
Guyana Drone Operators Association
The Guyana Drone Operators Association (GDOA) was formed in 2017 to aid in the promotion of safety as well as adherence to the directive issued by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The goal is also to produce skilled, trained and certified UAV operators.
Steadfast commitment to sustainability and safety
We are committed to managing the planet’s energy resources in a sustainable manner. That means we strive to maximize the positive impacts of our activities in the areas where we are present.
