SK and Repsol inaugurate ILBOC’s lube base oils plant in Cartagena

  • ILBOC inaugurates its plant in Cartagena in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, the Ambassador from South Korea, Hee-Kwon Park, and the SK Group Chairman, Tae Won Chey and Repsol Chairman, Antonio Brufau.
  • The event was also attended by the President of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, the Mayor of Cartagena, José López, Repsol CEO, Josu Jon Imaz and SK Lubricants CEO and President of ILBOC, Kihwa Lee, as well as other authorities.
  • ILBOC, a joint venture between SK and Repsol, operates the biggest facility producing new generation lube base oils in Europe with a capacity of 630,000TN per year.
  • The company, which directly employs 90 people and provides indirect employment to more than 100, invested around 250 million euros in the Plant’s construction.
  • The contribution of SK, a South Korean company, represents that country’s biggest industrial investment in Spain.
  • The plant has operated at high throughput since its startup and is expected to achieve 500.000 tons of lube base oils produced in the following weeks.
