The Margarita-Huacaya project produces the equivalent of 20% of Spain’s gas consumption

Repsol starts up the largest gas well in the history of Bolivia

Press Release 21/12/2013 00:00
  • The Margarita 6 well produces six million cubic metres of gas a day and has become the most productive well in Bolivia and in the whole Sub-Andean basin.
  • Margarita 6 belongs to the second phase of the Margarita-Huacaya project, whose production has increased to 15 million cubic metres of gas a day, equivalent to 20% of Spain's daily consumption.
  • The President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, and Repsol Chairman Antonio Brufau inaugurated the extension of the Margarita gas processing plant at the beginning of October.
  • A number of new technologies have been used in this new well which optimise the drilling times and guarantee a greater working life, estimated at 20 years.
  • Both the execution deadlines and the cost savings of this operation have set a record for the industry, especially due to the high geological complexity of the area.
  • The Margarita-Huacaya project is one of ten key projects of Repsol’s 2012-2016 Strategic Plan: there are currently six wells in production and two more will be drilled in 2014.
