We maintain a strong commitment to our customers and technological innovation, as they drive the creation of a new energy model.

The team that makes up the Technology Area researches with its sights on the future. Additionally, the Technical Service and Development team works on a daily basis with our customers, developing new products and improving the processability, sustainability and suitability of existing products to better adapt them to their needs.

What do we strive to achieve?

  • Increased process efficacy
  • Reduce any waste
  • Improving the working conditions of materials by reducing the temperature and pressure used in the processes
  • Improved exploitation of energy resources

Key technological areas

  • Petrochemicals Feedstocks: Technologies for monomers production through conventional processes (steam cracker) or alternative processes (CtO-carbon to olefins; ethylene from ethanol) and CO2 conversion
  • Catalysts for Repsol Proprietary Technologies: Intermediates production (PO/SM) and new polyols developments
  • Polymer transformation Processes. Technologies for modifying the Properties of Polymers in order to achieve the requirements of High Added-value Application
  • Everyday objects
Reducing our carbon footprint

New technology to produce polycarbonate polyol

Repsol is developing an innovative and pioneering proprietary technology for manufacturing a new type of polyol, the polycarbonate polyol, which would partially replace its raw material, propylene oxide, with CO2.

These will reduce the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere and, consequently, the environmental impact.

New range

We have recently launched a new range of high impact polypropylene copolymers under the Repsol ImpactO® brand.

This new range will be used for car interior parts such as door panels or dashboards, and other everyday items such as shopping trolleys, suitcases, or child restraint systems for cars and bicycles.

High impact innovation

In 2019, Repsol received an award from its customers that form part of the European Plastics Converters (EuPC) association, with the overarching award for innovation that covers all types of polymers.

This accolade is based on the results of a satisfaction survey filled in by polymer customers throughout Europe, who rated polymer producers’ performance on quality, regulatory compliance, delivery efficiency, communication and innovation.

Quality in Repsol is a strategic value

Repsol Chemicals obtained its ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality Management Systems) certification in November 2017.

For us quality is a strategic value; management excellence, through continuous improvement, is one of the fundamental lines framing the various actions and commitments Repsol undertakes with its customers, shareholders, employees, suppliers and partners, as well as with society and any other stakeholders

  • Our commitment is to manufacture competitive products that meet the needs and expectations of our customers, while fully complying with current legislation.
  • Our organization is geared to process management, always mindful of continuous improvement and the LEAN philosophy.
  • In January 2018 we obtained the FSSC 22000 food safety certificate for all plastic polymers produced at our Tarragona complex. This certification is the first ever granted to a polyolefin production centre anywhere in the world, which is proof of our commitment and leadership in food safety. We also obtained this certification in December 2018 and March 2019 for our Puertollano and Sines facilities.

But for us, quality is much more than obtaining certificates and complying with legal requirements. It is a philosophy of day-to-day work that involves all the elements of the organization, guiding them towards the achievement of the same objective: the customer’s full satisfaction.
