  • Joins the Dow Jones European and World Sustainability indexes and obtains the maximum score for transparency, eco-efficiency and human capital development in the oil sector.
  • Obtains top marks for its community relations in the countries in which it carries out its activity.
  • Included among the top five European oil companies in sustainability.
  • Only eleven oil companies figure in the world index.
  • Antonio Brufau considers that this recognition endorses the efforts made by the company in transparency and in improving its community relations.

Repsol YPF has been classified as the most transparent oil company among the large world companies in the sector that form part of the selective Dow Jones Sustainability World and Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability indexes. It has been included after a strict assessment process that has analysed the economic, environmental and social activities of the companies that form part of the Dow Jones World and Dow Jones STOXX indexes.

The chairman of Repsol YPF, Antonio Brufau, expressed his satisfaction at this new recognition, which "endorses the policy of maximum transparency and rigour set in motion by the company". For the chairman of Repsol YPF, the high mark obtained in community relations in the countries in which the company operates is of special significance. "This is something of which we are particularly proud and which we will continue to develop as part of our healthy ambition to become the best reference point in the sector".

Each year, the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index assesses the behaviour of the 2500 companies that make up the Dow Jones World Index and selects only 10 per cent of them. In the latest assessment, together with Repsol YPF, only two world oil companies joined the index.

For its part, the Dow Jones STOXX European Index applies the same criteria as the Dow Jones World Sustainability Index to select 20% of the 600 European companies that make up the Dow Jones STOXX. On this occasion, Repsol YPF was the only oil company to be added to the list.

The assessment of both indexes considers more than 25 general and specific criteria for each sector, including the following:

  • codes of conduct
  • corporate governance
  • hazard management
  • climatic change
  • biodiversity
  • eco-efficiency
  • community relations
  • labour practices
  • human capital development
  • attracting and retaining talent

The Dow Jones Sustainability World and Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability indexes have given Repsol YPFs actions the maximum score (100 points) in transparency, eco-efficiency and human capital development, and the company was valued as the best oil company in these areas.

The aforementioned indexes give Repsol YPFs actions top marks in social impact on communities, commitment to society, hazard and crisis management, brand and client management and environmental and social information.

Since 2003, Repsol YPF has been included in the FTSE4Good index, which, together with the Dow Jones, is considered the most prestigious and demanding index in the world in sustainability and responsible corporate behaviour.
