Shared value in Peru

Value-creating initiatives

Reflecting our commitment to generating shared value in the territories where we operate, we launch social and environmental initiatives in Ventanilla (Peru) that contribute to improve the quality of life of the communities and promoting their development.

"Fuertes como el Hierro" program

Nutrition and education to prevent childhood anemia in Peru

Contributing to the prevention of childhood anemia and strengthening the food security of the most vulnerable families in Ventanilla, a district near La Pampilla Refinery, are the objectives of the "Fuertes como el Hierro" program, an initiative developed by the Peru Food Bank and funded by La Pampilla Refinery since 2022.

The project promotes healthy eating, access to nutritious food and the strengthening of community capacities to improve the quality of life of children and their families. Through training, nutritional monitoring and community support, we contribute to the prevention of childhood anemia.

Results

The program has benefited thousands of families in vulnerable situations.

Childhood anemia among participating children decreased from 15.9% to 8.6%, a decrease of 48%.

More than 90% of the participants improved their knowledge on healthy eating and nutrition.

Thanks to these results, "Fuertes como el Hierro" has established itself as an initiative that contributes to generating sustainable changes in families’ eating habits, expanding the positive impact of the initiative in the community, and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to zero hunger, good health and well-being, while promoting more resilient and healthy communities in the area surrounding La Pampilla Refinery.
