Repsol in the United States

The United States is a core country in Repsol’s 2021-2025 Strategic Plan for its high-quality upstream assets with existing infrastructure, capital flexibility, and growth potential. The unconventional hydrocarbon revolution and the country’s long-standing tradition in the industry has enabled it to go from being a net hydrocarbon importer to the world’s leading energy producer in just a short number of years, according to the International Energy Agency. The political stability of the country, rapidly expanding multi-energy market, its diverse and experienced energy workforce, and its privileged location with access to both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans make the United States an attractive country for companies like Repsol.

In the United States, Repsol has upstream assets in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania – one of the largest unconventional natural gas fields in the world – the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas, the Gulf of Mexico and the North Slope in Alaska, where we announced the Horseshoe discovery in 2017 – the largest conventional hydrocarbon find on US soil in 30 years. The company also has downstream businesses in natural gas marketing and trading – aligned with our commitment to advance lower-emission power generation – as well as crude oil and products marketing and trading.

Our activity in the United States contributes to the company’s sustainability objectives, aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Repsol publishes an annual sustainability plan and report for our operations in the United States since 2013 to demonstrate our commitments and achievements to building a more sustainable energy future and to drive the progress of society.
