Repsol makes new Brazilian offshore discovery

  • A discovery has been made in the Carioca Northeast well, in block BM-S-9, 275 kilometers from the Sao Paulo coast.
  • The well is in the Carioca exploratory area, one of the company’s key projects.
  • Preliminary analysis shows a reservoir of 200 metres containing high quality crude.
  • Brazil’s offshore is one of the world’s fastest-growing hydrocarbons reserves. 
  • Repsol Sinopec has 25% stake in the discovering consortium, in which Petrobras has 45% and is the operator and BG Group owns 30%.
