Properties, uses, and applications
Is a non-corrosive, flammable, colorless gas smelling faintly of gasoline,, obtained from the C4 fraction in the cracking process of naphtha. It is slightly soluble in water, as well as in methanol and ethanol and soluble in the commoner organic solvents, such as acetone, ether, benzene and cyclohexane.
The main applications of butadiene are synthetic rubber (SBR, SBS, thermoplastic rubber, etc.), widely used in producing shoe soles, tires and other parts for the car industry, adhesives and sealants, asphalt, and polymer modification and compounds for endless purposes.
It is also the basis for nylon and ABS resins, car tires, electrical appliance shells and telephones, among others.
