Repsol is the energy company with the best environmental performance in 2012 according to Newsweek magazine. The company has led the Green Ranking of companies in the energy sector for a second consecutive year. The ranking analyses the environmental practices of the world’s top 500 listed companies, using three criteria: environmental impact, environmental management systems and transparency in the environmental report.

The 2012 edition of the Green Ranking has valued very positively Repsol’s transparency in its environmental report. The company has also obtained a high score in the environmental management system category as well as for the development of programs, initiatives and certifications implemented throughout the organization as defined in its Health, Safety and Environment Policy.

The Green Ranking is produced by Newsweek magazine together with Trucost  and Sustainalytics, two well-established companies dedicated to sustainability analysis. This multi-sector ranking compares the world’s largest companies’ levels of commitment and environmental performance, evaluating approximately 700 indicators that asses issues such as greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, waste management, management of the environmental footprint as well as participation in initiatives such as the Global Reporting Initiative or the Carbon Disclosure Project.

This recognition comes after Repsol’s recent ranking as the most sustainable oil and gas company in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe (DJSI Europe), and its leadership in the world energy industry in carbon management according to the 2012 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).

Repsol has always been rated amongst the top companies in its sector in different sustainability rankings and studies. These acknowledgements reflect the effort the company has made to improve its performance and demonstrate the commitment of managers and employees to make Repsol a leading company and a benchmark for transparency and corporate responsibility.
