Mexico

Oil production is one of the most important economic activities for the development and growth of Mexico. This country has a significant amount of hydrocarbons and a long industrial tradition, as well as refining capacity and experience. To the north, it shares a border with the United States and to the south with Guatemala and Belize. The Pacific lies on the west coast and the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea on the east.
  • Our activities in Mexico

Repsol arrived in Mexico in 1999. Here, we distribute lubricants and specialized products, develop exploration and production activities, and have strategic partnerships with local companies that share our values and principles of honesty and integrity. We are also present throughout the oil and gas value chain and are clearly committed to growing alongside the Mexican market. Our objective is to provide a responsible energy supply and contribute towards the economic development of the country.

In 2018, Repsol received the contract for 6 offshore exploration blocks in the Gulf of Mexico. Oil discoveries were made in two of them—located in deep waters, off the coasts of Veracruz and Tabasco—in 2020, with great potential and excellent properties.

Storage

Repsol is part of two logistics projects for storing and distributing hydrocarbons, with a storage capacity of more than 600,000 barrels of oil.

  • In Lagos de Moreno (Jalisco), Repsol has a storage capacity of 150,000 barrels.
  • In the Tuxpan Port Terminal (Veracruz), Repsol will have a storage capacity of 450,000 barrels. Its start-up is scheduled for 2021.

Employment

In its all its activities—both direct and indirect—Repsol generates around 1,800 jobs. Ensuring the safety of people and operations, the Company has incorporated various training programs into the work integration process aimed at the correct management of operations, focused on risk prevention and health and safety; as well as knowledge in the application of codes of ethics and business conduct that everyone who works at Repsol must comply with.

Local Sustainability Report

In 2020, Repsol's Sustainability Plan was launched in Mexico to keep on working for the sustainable economic and social growth of the country. This plan was created as a document to reinforce the company's commitment to sustainable development and transparency, and which formally and systematically responds to the expectations of Mexican society regarding Repsol's activity.

These 13 commitments were defined in line with SDG 6,7, 8, 9, 12, and 13 of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Clean Water and Sanitation; Affordable and Clean Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Responsible Production and Consumption; and Climate Action.
