Repsol Chairman and CEO, Antonio Brufau received the CEO of the Year at the Platts Global Energy Awards, an annual award held in New York recognising industry leadership, innovation and excellence in the energy industry.
Antonio Brufau was recognised for his strategic vision and leadership in maintaining and promoting the company’s successful growth while managing the difficult situation caused by the illegal nationalisation of YPF in April 2012. Platts especially valued Brufau’s delivery of a clear and concise strategy and transformative leadership.
Brufau was selected from nearly 200 nominations by a committee of industry experts that determine the winner of the awards hosted by Platts, the leading global energy, petrochemicals and metals information provider that is over one hundred years old. Winners of previous awards include executives from several of the world's major energy companies.
Platts highlighted the transformation registered in Repsol in recent years, during which it has become a world leader in exploration and has made five of the most important hydrocarbon discoveries in the world. In addition, the company has recently developed the largest industrial project in Spain, which has placed its downstream area at the forefront of European refining systems. Along with this transformation, Repsol has created exemplary human resources and environmental management policies.
Platts recognised Repsol in 2009 when it won the “Commercial Technology of the Year”, award, for its kaleidoscope project of innovative technology applied to hydrocarbon exploration. In addition, in 2004, the company was awarded the “Best Engineering Project of the Year” for the technology developed for the Prestige oil recovery, which also recognised its solidarity and altruism since the company had no relationship with the ship or its cargo.
