Incident management

Appropriate incident management is key to a proactive safety culture.
  • We have procedures and tools based on the best international practices to facilitate incident management. This includes a computerized system to report, register, analyze, monitor, and consolidate information on incidents which promotes the effective management and analysis of any incidents that occur.

Monitoring of accident rate indicators

We monitor two types of accident rate indicators: preventative and based on results.

  • Results indicators: show incidents that have already occurred.

The following personal accidents pyramid is an example of the results-based indicators that we monitor:

Gestión de incidentes
  • Preventive indicators: enable us to anticipate situations that could cause incidents in the future and help us monitor the effectiveness of established barriers for preventing accidents. It is, therefore, critical to pay special attention to this type of indicator.

Some examples of preventative indicators are:

  • Indexes of the extent of prevention and safety training.
  • No. of preventative safety observations (PSO).
  • Set times for incident reporting and investigation.
  • Quality of incident investigations.
  • Improvement actions implemented and definition of lessons learned.
  • Risk analysis performed.
  • Inspections and audits carried out.
