GENERAL QUÍMICA AND THE PUERTOLLANO SITE ARE AWARDED THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE ISO 14001:1996

Last 23rd October and 10th December, 2002, respectively, AENOR (Asociación Española de Normalización y Certificación) has awarded GENERAL QUÍMICA, S.A. and the industrial complex of REPSOL QUÍMICA S.A. at Puertollano the ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE, according to the UNE-EN ISO 14001/1996 on Environmental Managing Systems.

The Corporate Management of General Química of Repsol YPF goes on a further step on the way to be awarded the ISO 14001 Certification on Environmental Managing Systems that are already implemented at several of its facilities as well as its constant commitment as regards environmental issues.  These two new certifications complete the process begun in 1998, since at the present time, all the facilities of GENERAL QUIMICA S.A. Corporate Management already have these certifications.

As it is already well known the International Norm ISO 14001 establishes the basic rules for the Environmental Managing System at any given enterprise and by means of a certification granted by an independent auditor verifies that the implemented system at any given centre meets all the requirements of the Norm.  Among them are some very relevant ones such as the principle of Continuous Improvement, the implementation of a system of Environmental Audits etc.  This is a non-compulsory initiative that establishes guidelines and norms to be carried out beyond the mere enforcement of the law as well as environmental norms currently in force.

The general activity of GENERAL QUÍMICA S.A. goes from producing accelerators for rubber, agrochemical products, organic dyes and intermediates, cadmium pigments, xanthates and sulphides. It has some 251 employees and is situated at Lantarón (Álava).

The industrial complex of Repsol YPF at Puertollano is specialised in producing butadiene, polypropylene, high density and low density polyethylene, and compounds, EVA copolymers, ethylbencene, styrene, propylene oxide, flexible polyols, polymeric polyols, rigid polyols, CASE polyols and glycols. It has some 476 employees.
