Introduction to Autogas
What is Autogas?
It is a LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) mixture, used as an engine fuel and defined on a European level by Regulation UNE EN 589.
Today, AutoGas is the most widely used alternative fuel in the world, and is the only to have real potential for effective and immediate implementation among the general public. In Europe, this fuel is already in use, with more than 6 million vehicles running on AutoGas (on a global scale, there are now more than 11 million), not counting more than 1,400 urban buses which already run on this fuel in 25 European cities.
The adaptations required to use this alternative fuel can only be made to petrol engine vehicles, and not to diesel engines. It is worth highlighting that this is an adaptation and not a conversion, as once the relevant elements are installed, the vehicle can use either one fuel or the other.
Agreement with the Galician Driving School Federation
This agreement with the Galician Driving School Federation (FGAE) has set out a framework for mutual cooperation, with the first agreement made in 2008 and 2009 to encourage the use of LPG as a fuel.
The agreement has been established on the basis of the following conditions:
With this agreement with the FGAE, Repsol Gas assumes the extra costs incurred in purchasing new vehicles adapted to run on LPG, a difference valued at 2,000 euros/unit, to the benefit of the Driving schools associated with the FGAE, for the duration of the agreement.
Repsol Gas will take on the responsibility of installing a self-standing supply unit (SKID) on the premises of the Driving schools which have at least 5 cars, or which commit to buy them in under 3 years, through an installation and supply contract. The Driving school must provide the necessary space, public works and electrical installations.
What's more, Repsol is offering Driving schools a series of consumption discounts for this fuel in two ways:
- For supplies made through a self-standing unit (SKID):
Discounts will be provided on the basis of the supplies accumulated by all of the FGAE associated Driving schools as a whole, with each contract year in accordance with the following consumption scale:
| Annual consumption | Discount in €/Tm
to
Repsol Gas fleet rates |
| 0-12 tm | 0 |
| 12-30 tm | 20 |
| 30-60 tm | 30 |
| 60-100 tm | 40 |
| 100-200 tm | 60 |
| More than 200 tm | 80 |
- For supplies made by Autogas pumps:
A discount to the official rate will be applied to the driving schools included in this agreement, set at 0.03 € per litre supplied.
To encourage the future development of this initiative, Repsol Gas will give:
- For every new vehicle of the associated Driving schools, which is to run on Autogas, Repsol Gas will provide supply or discount vouchers for LPG supplies which exceed 1,500 € in value.
Why choose Autogas as a fuel:
Below are some reasons to choose Autogas as a fuel. Assess it for yourself and do the maths.
- Longer engine duration
A standardised mix which gives a cleaner combustion, reducing engine wear.
- Cheaper maintenance
Maintaining a petrol vehicle is cheaper than maintaining a Diesel one.
- The cost of changing the oil
The time in between oil changes is longer because of the absence of carbonaceous deposits which make the lubricating oil dirty.
- Injector and valve adjustment
The cost/frequency ratio is cheaper for petrol/Autogas vehicles.
- The cost of changing the filter
Replacing filters in diesel vehicles is more expensive than in petrol/Autogas vehicles.
- Autonomy
The number of working hours in between each refueling is similar to that of a petrol vehicle and higher compared to other alternative fuels, such as CNG.
- Refueling is quick and easy.
- Driving is smoother, quieter and there are no vibrations
- Commitment to Climate Change
CO2 emissions can be up to 15% lower than in petrol vehicles, emitting 1500 kilos less of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
- It helps improve the air quality in cities
AutoGas lowers nitorgen oxide emissions by 90% and particles by 97%. (50% if diesel vehicles have a particle filter) and compared to petrol vehicles, CO emissions are lowered by 50% and HC emissions by 37%.
Comparing AutoGas to other alternative fuels, such as methanol or ethanol, using LPG reduces emissions to a similar extent as petrol.
- The cost of the vehicle
A petrol model is always cheaper than the equivalent diesel model.
- The cost of the fuel
The price of AutoGas is approximately half of the cost of conventional fuels and, bearing in mind the consumption levels, the financial saving is approximately 40% compared to petrol and 20% set against diesel.

Why join this initiative:
If it hasn't yet been made clear, here are 10 reasons to help you decide and make a move:
- Because it is the most widely used alternative fuel in the world.
- Because it is a reality and is becoming increasingly used on both the national and international levels.
- Because it means a reduction in costs at purchase and in maintenance.
- Because it will considerably lower the cost of each refueling.
- Because you can use both fuels without distinction, increasing your autonomy.
- Because it gives you the utmost in safety and reliability.
- Because it reduces the disruption resulting from the noise and smells.
- Because it entails a greater commitment to the Environment and with everyone playing a part, we can change the world.
- Because the F.G.A.E. endorses its implementation and use.
- Because with Repsol you feel supported by a great company.
