Liquified petroleum gas -LPG- has a great number of domestic uses. However, there are certain considerations that should be taken into account before deciding on whether or not to use it:

  • Although they have very similar applications, butane and propane are used in different ways according to the boiling point required.
  • Butane is used when there is limited consumption, as would be the case for household use.
  • For industrial use, greater household consumption (kitchen, hot sanitary water, heating) and outdoor use -in which the temperature can fall below zero degrees-, it is advisable to use propane.
  • Butane and propane gas installations -above all those for domestic uses- are quick and easy to set up, as well as being economical.
  • They are non-pollutant and do not produce waste products as do other energy sources. They are, therefore, a modern and convenient type of energy.

Appliances that use propane or butane gas differ considerably from those that run on other types of gas, above all as regards the injectors -which are smaller in diameter- and the burners -with the entry of a greater quantity of primary air- as well as the mains taps -which, due to the great fluidity of LPG, must have a greater gas-tightness.

Bottles of butane are to be used specifically in:

  • Cooking: cookers and ovens.
  • Hot water: water heaters.
  • Heating: portable heaters.
