Heat-adhesive emulsions

Vehicles used for asphalting workAt Repsol, two different heat-adhesive emulsions have been developed: Antistick emulsion, produced using the hard bitumen B 13/22 and Antistick-m emulsion produced using bitumen that has been chemically modified with polymers. Both of these are quick-breaking cationic emulsions.

With the traffic on the building site and the spreader, conventional adhesive emulsions get stuck and come up, which decreases the adhesion between layers, shortening the life-span of the road surface.

The characteristic feature of Repsol's heat-adhesive emulsions is that, on spreading, the mixture softens the hard surface of the bitumen resulting from the emulsion and thus ensures effective ahesion. As well as providing maximum ahesion to the base, they also guarantee minimum levels of stickiness with regard to the tyres of the vehicles used on the building site.

Furthermore, the fact that the grit used in heat-adhesive emulsions does not stick to the tyres of construction vehicles provides the following advantages:
  • It is not necessary to stop the traffic on the building site.
  • The adhesive later that has been spread is not eliminated.
  • It general, it provides considerable cost-savings.
