The German firm MAN has set itself the objective of becoming the first manufacturer to develop and produce engines that comply with the stricter emissions norms known as Euro 6. These new EU limits and regulations will come into force at the beginning of 2014. The objective fixed by the German company will be to have the Euro 6 engines developed by 2012.
MAN`s intention is to become the first manufacturer of engines for HGV vehicles that respect and comply with the Euro 6 emissions, and to do so by 2012. This is because there is the possibility that, at European level, a series of direct subsidies are set up for companies and workers operating in the field of transport that purchase cleaner vehicles, that is to say those that comply with the Euro 6 limits.
At the same time this announcement coincides with the restructuring being carried out by the German manufacturer on its range of engines produced for the European market. And so MAN has taken the decision not to mount its Euro 5 EGR engine units on the TGS & TGX range of lorries, but will continue to offer the Euro 5 SCR V8 engine that has a peak power of 680bhp.
Representatives at the German firm have accepted the fact that the option of continuing to develop EGR engines makes no business sense in a sector that works with EU norms, what is more the intention is to introduce even stricter norms, such as Euro 6, within the next five years at the latest. That is why MAN has got down to work on the development of Euro 6 technology so that it will have clean, modernengines in a ferociously competitive market.
