The DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico - Traffic Department) has set up a new campaign to check and monitor vans and trucks travelling on the Spanish road network. On average around 8 000 vans and 5 000 trucks are involved in fatal accidents every year.

With the launch of this latest special campaign on Spanish roads, it is forecast that around 15 000 inspections of this type of vehicles will be carried out, which is about 15% of the total number of this type of vehicle on Spanish roads.

The police (agentes de la Agrupación de Tráfico de la Guardia Civil) will be paying special attention to checks on the technical state of the vehicle and its safety elements, their weight and the fixing of any load, the state of the tyres and the lighting systems. In addition the related paperwork will be checked, making sure that it corresponds to the activity being carried out, as well as checks on the driver`s own documents.

This campaign coincides, as on other occasions, with Operation TRUCK that is simultaneously carried out by the International Organisation of Traffic Police in over 25 European countries.
