The first quarter of 2009 has brought more disappointing commercial vehicles sales figures, just like those seen in the last twelve months. Sales of commercial vehicles during the first three months of the year reached 26 043 units, this is a significant fall, 50.9% compared to the same period in 2008.
March saw a big fall in the number of commercial vehicles sold, the number of vehicles registered only reached the figure of 10 257 units, and so once again the sector will have to assimilate more bad news concerning the registration of commercial vehicles. Registrations of commercial vehicles fell by 42.6% in just March, that is in comparison to the same period last year.
The associations representing this sector, Anfac & Ganvam, explain that the situation related to sales of commercial vehicles has not changed because the current economic situation has stopped activity in small and medium-sized companies, which to a large extent are the purchasers that keep the commercial vehicle market ticking over in general.
The situation in each of the niches during the first three months of 2009 make it clear that the most adversely affected is the car based van sector, this has fallen by 58.5% until March. Vans fell 42.9% in the quarter. A similar figure was seen for pick-ups which shrank by 45.9% if the figures are compared to 2008.
