Kymco Like: a bet on classic lines

Copy Kymco

The Taiwanese manufacturer Kymco presented its new scooter model for 2009 at the recent EICMA Show in Milan. The Kymco Like is a bet by the company on the most classic lines used on this type of scooter. With its Vespa like looks the company from Taiwan plans to produce three engine sizes each with three cylinders, 50cc, 125cc and 200cc.

There are some features that make this latest model from Kymco into one with classic lines, there is an Italian Vespa look on its bodywork, as well as chromed details and a flat floor. Kymco is planning to put this model on sale, with three displacements, in spring next year.

Referring to the engines on this new scooter, Kymco has mounted its 4 stroke air-cooled 50cc unit on the smallest model. Perhaps its most important feature being the system it uses to control polluting emissions, called SAS, which produces a second combustion to remove more gases than normal by leaving an air inlet valve on the exhaust open. Another of the big new features on this Like model is the cold-starting system, called “Bypass Starter”.

On the 125 version there is the People S, an air-cooled single-cylinder two valve unit, with a peak power of 9.8bhp. The Like 200cc version provides a peak power of 11bhp with Synerject fuel injection, regulated by a PDA device.
