Motorbike sales are one of the worst affected sectors of the market during this current economic crisis. Registrations of two-wheeled vehicles fell to 182 203 units, which is a drop of more than 40% compared to 2008.
According to data released by Anesdor - the Asociación Nacional de Empresas del Sector de las Dos Ruedas - concerning the motorbike market in 2009 show that sales fell quite considerably if compared to 2008. Back then 304 692 units were sold whilst last year registrations were a little over 182 000 units. Last year a little over half the number of mopeds were sold compared to 2008.
Anesdor has analysed the situation in an attempt to stimulate the motorbike market but it has not reacted at all in the last few months in spite of the introduction of a subsidy called the Plan Moto-E, and so the association is asking the Ministry of Industry to rethink the measures that have been implemented.
A breakdown of the figures by niche shows that the worst affected was the moped market, with a fall of around 47.8% compared to the previous year. As for motorbikes, registrations fell overall by 37% during the year compared to 2008, whilst that of quads saw an even bigger fall, 44% down on 2008.
