The cold an unwelcome visitor to Pingüinos 2009

Copy ctv

The very low temperatures were the talking point at the 2009 edition of Pingüinos held in Puente de Duero; ice and snow took the thermometers down to well below zero practically everyday of the meet. Even so, more than 18 300 bikers fought off the cold to spend their weekend in the small town of Puente de Duero and have some fun.

To be exact there were 18 314 bikers down as official visitors to the 2009 edition of Pingüinos. A figure that is quite a bit lower than for Pingüinos 2008, but obviously the weather played a big part in that. The snow all over Spain affected the numbers being able to attend the whole weekend for this the 28th edition of Pingüinos, and this is why the forecast number of visitors did not reach the figure expected.

The 2009 edition of Pingüinos closed as always with the prize-giving ceremony, as well as the corresponding prize draws for all official visitors to the event. The Repsol rider Toni Bou was one of the winners at this year`s Pingüinos, together with the Ayuntamiento de Valladolid (City Council) and the Asociación Nacional de Empresas de Dos Ruedas (National Association of Companies in the Two-wheel Sector)). And this year`s award for the most veteran official visitor to Pingüinos 2009 went to Juan Rivero, 82 years old.

The organisers of Pingüinos closed the event with a smile on their faces and with good sensations, that is in spite of the low temperatures which reduced the number of participants this year quite considerably. The organisers also expect that the same venue will be used for next year`s edition of the most important winter meet in Europe.
