The data published in the latest economic report by Acea, th Asociación de Constructores Europeos de Automóviles shows a slump in car production. According to the report car production fell 13% in Europe last year, compared to 2008, and recorded the lowest level of activity since 1996.
Production figures from 2009 continue to echo around the car manufacturing sector, after the release of very disappointing data found in the latest economic report from the Asociación de Constructores Europeos de Automóviles, Acea. This data shows that the level of car production around Europe has not been at such a low level for 13 years.
The overall production figures for all types of vehicles in Europe last year reached 15.2 million units, which is 17% lower that recorded in 2008. This fall in the sector had its biggest effect in the commercial vehicle niche, and so for example, van production dropped by 42% in 2009.
Within Europe, Spain ended 2009 as the second biggest producer of vehicles in Europe, with a total of 2.17 million units produced but a fall of 14.6% compared to the previous year. Germany continues to be the biggest producer in Europe, manufacturing 5.2 million units in 2009.
