Alter hearing the latest weather forecast the Home Office - Ministerio del Interior – is asking drivers to take special precautions on the roads in Spain and to follow a series of recommendations so as to avoid problems the rest of the winter, one which is proving to be very problematic in many regions - comunidades autónomas. Interior is asking drivers to follow the advice given in each of the Comunidad Autónomas.
Recommendations for the bad weather
The forecast is for snowfalls and very low temperatures and if a trip has to be made one must pay special attention to the state of the roads as black ice may well appear. One must stay informed of the road situation and follow the advice given in each of the Comunidad Autónomas. Check your tyres, the anti-freeze and the brakes on your vehicle as well as carrying chains. Always include a blanket and warm clothing in your luggage and always keep your mobile telephone charged and a spare battery.
If it rains heavily you should lower your speed and not stop in zones where large amounts of water could flow. Whenever possible use main roads and motorways, avoid flooded roads as well as areas close to rivers, hillsides and cliffs. If you are hit by high winds you should avoid areas close to beaches and other places that are exposed and that could be affected by extra high tides and large waves produced by the wind.
Above all the Ministerio de Interior advises drivers to stay informed of the situation in their particular area, keep their vehicle in a good state and follow the weather bulletins given by the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología.
