The arrival of summer and the peak holiday period will raise the volume of traffic on the Spanish road network considerably over the next couple of months. This is the reason why the Commission of Tyre Manufacturers is reminding the public once again about the importance of tyres on any trip.
Checking the state of a vehicle`s tyres should be a priority before any trip made by road and something that the Commission of Tyre Manufacturers wants to make the public aware of. According to the Higway code and other norms the tread on a tyre has to have a minimum depth of 1.6mm, if this is not the case the typical fine is €150 for each of the tyres that do not comply with the law.
The public is also reminded that all tyres have to retain their obligatory markings. In fact a study made by the Commission of Tyre Manufacturers itself showed that 30% of drivers were unaware of the norms that referred to the tread on a tyre and 25% of those drivers who knew about this law did not know how to check the state of their tyres.
Data published recently by the DGT - Dirección General de Tráfico Traffic Department - indicate that 27% of the vehicles travelling on the Spanish road network run a serious risk of suffering an accident because their car has tyres in a bad condition.
