The Plan VIVE passes 41 800 operations since it was set up

The Ministerio de Industria – Ministry of Industry - has reviewed the results and operation of the Plan VIVE – New for Old subsidy - since it was set up and until the middle of April 2009. With a figure of 41 800 operations recorded the Plan VIVE has also consumed half of the budget it had been given for 2009.

Of the €700m budget that the Plan VIVE was given in 2009 a total of €409m has been consumed to date, that is to say the middle of April, this is 60% of the total amount available to the Plan VIVE. According to what the Ministerio de Industria has announced the forecasts speak of the budget being totally used up long before a year of operation has passed.

The General Secretary of the Ministerio de Industria, Teresa Santero, stated that the budget of €700m awarded to the Plan VIVE in 2009 will be spent before the month of July arrives, this is because the number of operations being recorded per fortnight is now over 7 000. This is an important difference compared to the pace of operations during its first one hundred days; only 100 operations were recorded during that time and this forced the Ministerio de Industria to modify it, the effect was almost immediate and in the following 100 days there were 27 000 requests for a subsidy.

The Plan VIVE has been gaining in importance among the public ever since it was reformed. The current conditions of the Plan VIVE, basically a subsidy given to the purchaser of a new or almost new car, are based on the scrapping of a vehicle that is over 10 years old, or with over 250 000km on the clock, which is replaced by another newer car that pollutes less.
