According to the data contained in a study carried out by the Asociación Nacional de Vendedores de Vehículos a Motor - National Association of Car Salesmen - Spanish car dealers ended the first quarter of the year in profit. Something that is in stark contrast to the negative results obtained during the same period in 2009.
This positive change in the downward trend recorded for the profitability of dealerships has a lot to do with the significant growth recorded in the new car market over the last few months. An increase of 40% during the first quarter of the year is a clear example of the boost given to sales by the government`s scrapping plan known as the Plan 2000E.
The exact figures show that the average profitability at dealers during the first quarter of the year was 0.7%. This data is based on the gross profit of the turnover at the dealers in the study. This figure is higher than and improves on the negative profitability of 1.7% that was recorded by dealers during the same period in 2009.
The figures contained in this study show that the profitability of the sales area at dealers is up to around 3.4%, reaching levels that had not been recorded since 2007. The importance of the Plan 2000E with its direct subsidies for the purchase of a new car, the policy of restricting costs and the reduction in the financial load on firms have been the most important factors for this evolution at dealers to take place.
