Repsol has been chosen as the company from the energy sector which best maintains relations with the Spanish press, according to the second round of the 2009 KAR study carried out by IPSOS. Up to 46% of the Spanish journalists surveyed identified Repsol as the company in the industry with best press relations.
In the second round of the study Repsol is again top of the list and for the first time leads the ranking for the best business strategy in the industry with 76% of the votes, up from third place in the first round.
IPSOS, the top survey-based market research company in Spain and third in the world, presented the results of the second round of the 2009 KAR Study in Spain on 18 February.
The study assesses the financial situation and measures the corporate reputation and social responsibility of the country’s companies. The study is drawn up on the basis of a survey amongst 250 journalists. As in previous years, it has also drawn on the involvement of analysts, politicians, academics, business leaders and journalists from various media sources.
KAR 2009 focused on two aspects: The reputation of the companies and their corporate social responsibility (in terms of both business success and strategy) and the relations between companies and their stakeholders. The study ranks Repsol first in two of the categories.
The companies analysed are part of the IBEX-35 index and are major players in dynamic and competitive industries at national and international levels. They are all subject to intense news media scrutiny.
According to IPSOS Corporate Director, Jorge Diaz Cardiel, the 2009 KAR results demonstrate that “the energy sector is one of the industries that gives most importance to its image, is most committed to its environment, and makes most effort in transmitting this information.”
