Repsol and the Leche Pascual Group have initiated a collaboration agreement to renew the food group’s fleet of delivery vehicles throughout Spain.
The first vehicles to be run on AutoGas and incorporated into Leche Pascual Group's fleet were presented today in Madrid. This event held at the food group's centre in Barajas Airport, was attended by Alberto Ruiz Gallardon, Mayor of Madrid, Pedro Fernandez Frial, Repsol Executive Director of Downstream, Tomas Pascual, Leche Pascual Group Chairman, and Jeronimo Gonzalez, Managing Director of Mercedes Benz Industrial Vehicles in Spain.
As part of this agreement, Repsol has installed the necessary infrastructure for refuelling liquefied petroleum gas (AutoGas) at the Leche Pascual Group's centre in the Madrid Barajas Airport. Repsol is also working with Mercedes Benz in developing vehicles to be run on Autogas.
This project is part of the Pro-Clima Forum and backed by the Madrid City Council to improve the environment and promote the replacement of fleets by more ecological ones. In joining this Forum, the Leche Pascual Group is committed to replacing 6% of its fleet with a more sustainable alternative before 2012. It has already reached 4% in less than half the expected time.
Characteristics of Autogas
Autogas, a mixture of propane and butane gas mainly obtained in natural gas fields, it is the most widely-used alternative fuel in the world.
It is an ecological, safe and easy to install, and is less expensive compared to other traditional fuels. Its use reduces emissions, contributing to an improved air quality in big cities.
The technology of AutoGas gives vehicles the following advantages:
In Spain, approximately 3,000 vehicles run on AutoGas. Some car manufacturers already make models that use this fuel. Vehicles that use petrol can also use this fuel by means of a simple conversion in licensed garages. In Europe more than 7 million vehicles are driven by AutoGas, including 1,500 city buses in 25 European cities.
