Chemicals

Chemistry is a science that continues to play a key role in the search for solutions to current and future challenges, giving priority to sustainable development.

Our chemicals business produces and markets a wide range of products, from basic petrochemicals to derivative products.

At Repsol we market our products in over 90 countries and are the market leader on the Iberian Peninsula.

Production is concentrated in three petrochemical complexes, located in Puertollano and Tarragona (Spain) and Sines (Portugal), in which there is a high level of integration between refining operations and petrochemical operations.

Innovation is a key elementin the way we produce and market our chemicals business, and its nerve centre is the Repsol Technology Centre, which is equipped with the most advanced tools.

The Technical Assistance and Development team is committed to co-operative development and innovation with our clients, and this translates into a competitive advantage for both parties.

Our investment is centered on improving and optimizing existing assets, eboosting efficiency, reducing costs and improving standards of quality, safety and respect for the environment.

Sales to third parties in Chemicals rose to 2.308 billion tonnes in 2012.

Benefits of Chemicals

Chemicals play an important role in all areas of our lives and promote the sustainable development of our society; not only are they efficient with energy resources, but they also increase our comfort, safety and well-being.

Chemical products, and especially plastics, allow us to save energy, for example through insulation, roofs, exterior walls and partitions, because they retain heat as well as insulate from outside noise. Plastics are also lighter that other materials and therefore consume less fuel in transporting them, reducing CO2 emissions.
