YPF is Argentina's market-leading company in hydrocarbons exploration and production, refining and marketing, and chemicals. As well as being the biggest company in the country, YPF is the main investor, the second-biggest exporter and one of the top employers with more than 30,000 staff working either directly or indirectly for the firm. Repsol has a presence in Argentina through its shareholding in YPF.
Exploration and production
- YPF holds the mineral rights to 113 blocks in Argentina.
- 21 are exploration blocks, with a combined net area of 50,221 km2.
- 92 are production blocks, with a combined net area of 26,501 km2.
- During 2008, YPF made five oil and one gas discoveries, from a total of 17 wells drilled.
LNG
- YPF's natural-gas sales increased, especially in the industrial and distribution sectors.
- YPF's market share in Argentina stood at 40%.
- June 2008 saw the beginning of South America's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification operation.
- This project was developed for the Argentinian government and was successfully completed in record time.
Downstream
- YPF owns the biggest propane-air plant in the world, which has a supply capacity of 1.5 million cubic metres per day.
- YPF has a multi-purpose pipeline network of 1,801 km for the distribution of its refined products, linked to its two main refineries with 16 storage and dispatch installations, which can hold up to 983,620 m3 of gas.
- YPF holds a 37% stake in Oldelval, the company that manages the oil pipeline linking the Neuquina basin with Puerto Rosales.
- YPF holds a 30% stake in Oiltanking Ebytem, the operator of the Puerto Rosales marine terminal.
- As the leading group in Argentina, YPF has 1,678 service stations, 1,642 in company colours and the rest through the 50% stake it holds in Refinor.
