Commitment to New Energy Sources

The New Energy Business Unit was created to promote and give business impetus to new initiatives that contribute to a vision of a future with more diverse energy sources and with decreased carbon dioxide emissions.

New energy

The aim of Repsol's New Energy Business Unit is to identify new opportunities, promote projects and carry out business initiatives in fields such as bioenergy and renewable energies applied to transport and other areas that could have synergies with Repsol's current business and the geographic areas in which it operates.

It also develops new businesses related to CO2 reduction and CO2 marketing, in particular CO2 capture and storage.

In this context, Repsol has undertaken several actions:

  1. Acquisition of 20% of AlgaEnergy, a leading microalgae research company.
  2. Signing of a purchase agreement for 47% of Orisol, an international company that promotes renewable energy projects.
  3. Creation of a joint venture with Mexican group KUO to develop bioenergy based on jatropha crops.
  4. Creation of the company IBIL with the Basque Energy Entity (EVE) to promote electric vehicles.
  5. Participation in the first Spanish flight with biofuel certified by the Repsol Technology Centre on the Madrid-Barcelona Air Shuttle Service.
