Trinidad and Tobago

Background

The plant began its production activities in April 1999. On 1 January 2000, Repsol purchased 10% of the company bpTT, owner of production assets in Trinidad and Tobago, from BP. In January 2003, the company purchased an additional 20% and, since that time, its share in the company has stood at around 30%.

Most of the natural gas for the trains comes from the bpTT marine fields. Train 2 started operations in 2002 and Train 3 in 2003. Their joint capacity stands at around 7 million tonnes per year. Repsol has long-term contracts for 2.7 bcm from these trains each year.

On 15 December 2005, a few months ahead of schedule, the fourth liquefaction train of the Atlantic LNG plant began operations. This project included the construction of a second dock and a fourth LNG storage tank.

Projects

In the field of LNG, Repsol has been developing a policy which reinforces its competitive position in this business area, key for its medium and long-term growth. Repsol participates in the integrated LNG project in Trinidad and Tobago, where it holds a share, along with BP and BG, and other companies, in the Atlantic LNG liquefaction plant. Its strategic geographical position means that the markets in the Atlantic basin (Europe, United States and Caribbean) can be supplied under economically advantageous conditions.

This plant has four liquefaction trains with a joint capacity of 15 million tonnes per year. Repsol has a 20% share in Train 1, a 25% share in Trains 2 and 3, and a 22.22% share in Train 4. Train 4 is one of the largest in the world, with a production capacity of 5.4 million tonnes per year. As well as having a share in the liquefaction trains, Repsol plays a leading role in supplying gas and is one of the main purchasers of LNG (around 3.2 million tonnes per year).
