Strategic LNG projects

In 2009 and early 2010, two of the most important Liquefied Natural Gas projects for the company have materialised, as foreseen in the 2008-2012 Strategic Plan and in the 2014 Horizon.

The main milestone for 2009, was the production start-up of the Canaport LNG regasification plant, owned by Repsol (75%) and Irving Oil (25%). This is the first LNG regasification plant on the east coast of Canada. Located in Saint John (New Brunswick), and with an initial supply capacity of 10 bcm per year (1 billion cubic feet per day, extendable to 2 billion cubic feet per day), this terminal is one of the largest in North America and supplies the markets on the east coast of Canada and in the north eastern United States.

In addition to this, last June, the Peru LNG liquefaction plant was opened in Peru. Repsol is part of this first natural gas liquefaction project through Peru LNG in Latin America, which gives a competitive advantage for the marketing of LNG in the Pacific basin. Repsol owns 20% of the aforementioned consortium, along with Hunt Oil (50%), SK Energy (20%) and the Marubeni Corporation (10%), American, South Korean and Japanese companies respectively.
