Repsol has successfully completed its regasification plant in the Canaport Terminal in Canada. This project, which is among the 10 largest investments included in the 2008-2012 Strategic Plan, consolidates Repsol's position as a trusted supplier of LNG for North American households and industry, the biggest market in the world.
The strategic location of the Canaport Terminal will reinforce the company's positioning in Liquefied Natural Gas in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Repsol, along with Irving Oil, is taking part in the Canaport project, which involved building and operating the first LNG regasification plant in the Canadian west coast in the past 30 years. Located in Saint John (New Brunswick), and with an initial supply capacity of 10 bcm per year (1 billion cubic feet per day, extendable to 2 billion cubic feet per day), the Canaport terminal is one of the largest in North America and will supply the markets on the east coast of Canada and in the north eastern United States.
Canaport LNG: has the capacity to meet up to 20% of the demand for gas in New York and New England. Repsol, with a 75% share, is the plant operator and will supply the LNG that will feed the terminal and will be responsible for the entire regasification capacity. The plant, which was opened in September 2009, is connected via the Brunswick gas pipeline to the network that supplies households and industries in Canada and the north-eastern United States, where Repsol and its associates already have competitive supply contracts.
