The 3 champions
In a year marked by the tragic death of the Japanese rider, Daijiro Kato, the big star in MotoGP was Valentino Rossi, who earned his fifth world title. However, one of the biggest surprises was the performance of Sete Gibernau who ended up in the runner-up spot. In 250cc, Manuel Poggiali came out on top in a hard-fought battle for the title, with Toni Elías finishing third. In 125, the star was Dani Pedrosa who won his first world title.
