Repsol YPF

He started the season in April at the circuit of in Losail - Qatar - with the objective of becoming a member of the leading group. Seven months later this has been achieved. Several setbacks meant that the Italian Repsol Honda Team member did not finish 5th in the overall but he was always up with the leaders throughout the season.

The Italian Repsol rider will find it hard to forget 26th July 2009 as this was the date of the last ever race at Donington Park. And in the history books the name of the winner at this legendary circuit will always be Andrea Dovizioso. A historic victory which was also his first win in MotoGP.

Close to podium finishes
It was a reward for all his hard work. The Repsol rider had been close to the podium on several occasions before then, just a whisker away three times. He was 5th two times and 4th three times, and 8th in Jerez. This is a summary of the Italian`s first ever season in MotoGP, a promising start that was cut short by bad luck.

Two falls and mechanical problems stopped him in Holland, Laguna Seca and Germany. But in the end his consistency was rewarded back in July. It was not easy - the Italian led the race for many laps in the rain but as his tyres wore down another rider got closer and closer. But the more difficult a race the better it tastes “This is a fantastic sensation” he said after crossing the finishing line.

A consistent rider
In the second half of the season he recovered his best feature - his consistency. He fought with the best but a podium finish was lost by a whisker several times. But in 2009 Andrea Dovizioso has been able to keep up with the best in the top category, and sometimes even beat them. A good result for his first ever season with the Repsol Honda Team.
