The World MotoGP Championship now turns to the north of Europe for two weeks, the next date in the calendar is at the British circuit of Donington Park this weekend. Fans are bound to see the latest instalment in the battle between the two riders at the top of the classification, one of whom is Dani Pedrosa. And he will be trying to repeat the wins he got there earlier in his career – two and four years ago.
Dani Pedrosa has now recovered from the fall he had at Montmeló during the practice sessions scheduled after his spectacular victory in the Catalunyan GP. Ad what is more he will be at a circuit where he has already won – in both MotoGP and in 250cc. The Spanish rider is dying to repeat the feat and so get back to the top of the rider classification.
According to Dani this is “a strange circuit”, gentle but with contrasts that require a good braking performance as well as a good level of grip on what is typically a slippery surface. On the other hand, as he explains on his own blog, “the weather is very important. Donington Park can be sunny in the morning, but then later it can be cold and it can rain” something that complicates things when it comes to deciding on the race set up he adds. “The best thing is for the weather on the Friday and Saturday to be exactly the same as on the Sunday”.
Nicky Hayden on the other hand may use the new engine with pneumatic valves this weekend, he tried this unit out after the Catalunyan GP at Montemló and it is one that has given him good sensations. The American rider admits that he is “really looking forward” to this race. He splits the circuit into two section; the first part of the circuit is more “exciting” whereas the second part you have to have good brakes. “the two sections are completely different” he says, something that makes this track into one of the most complex around.
