The 2009 pre-season got off the ground on 27th October at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, in Valencia Spain. The very same venue where the 2008 World Championship had ended the day before. The next practice session will not be held too far away from there either. The Spanish track of Jerez will host three new sessions of training, between 26th–28th November. This is because the teams are working flat out to prepare for the next and very different World Championship – with just one tyre supplier.

The 2009 season still does not have its definitive calendar because the Federation International de Motociclisme has not yet published the final agreed dates for each of the GP races. What is known though is that the World Championship will begin one month later than has been normal in the last few years, that is to say in April. Therefore the teams will have more time to get used to the new tyres supplied by Bridgestone.

At this moment the scheduled practice sessions for the 2009 MotoGP pre-season are given below, in addition to the ones that have taken place at Cheste:

27-28 October: Ricardo Tormo, Spain (now completed)
26-28 November: Jerez, Spain
21-23 January: Sepang, Malaysia
29-31 January: Phillip Island, Australia
5-7 February: Sepang, Malaysia
1-3 March: Losail, Qatar
27-29 March: Jerez, Spain
