The Spanish Repsol KTM team rider will arrive in Malaysia next week dying to get a podium finish. The rider has been improing steadily all season and in the last few races he has been close to finishing among the first three, something that he will try to put in the imminent Malaysian GP. If he manages to get his first ever podium in 250cc it will be a deserved reward for his great work in the last few races of the season.
In Australia Simón was just 28 thousandths of a second away from the podium after putting in a spectacular performance. The rider was in the leading group of four the whole race and was even the leader at one point. The Repsol rider moved into third position on the final lap but was overtaken by a whisker on the home straight.
The race on Philip Island is the perfect example of how the rider has been making spectacular progress in the second half of the 2008 season. Before Australia, in Japan, Simón got another magnificent fourth place, after being in second position on many laps. And in San Marino the Repsol rider put in another great performance to finish fifth.
Now the rider from Toledo is only thinking of a podium finish in Malaysia to round off this great run. After the race in Australia Simón said that he will be working “flat out” to get on the podium in Malaysia and Valencia. “This time we were very close. In any case I am pleased and now in Malaysia I am going to work extra hard to improve my results” he stressed.
