Ten facts that help you get to know the circuit of Cheste better

The race at Cheste is one of the most eagerly anticipated of the season. As in all the Spanish GP races there is an amazing atmosphere the whole weekend. Moreover this race will be the final one in an exciting season`s racing. Below you will find ten facts to help you enjoy the race better, data and curious things that reveal the secrets of the circuit of Ricardo Tormo.

Did you know?

… Dani Pedrosa is the rider that has won the GP de la Comunidad Valenciana most times. In the six times that the Repsol rider has raced at Cheste he has a haul of four victories and one podium finish.

… with his victory last year Dani became the first rider to win the three at categories (125cc, 250cc & MotoGP) at Cheste.

… in 2006 Nicky Hayden was proclaimed World MotoGP Champion at the Valencia GP.

… Pedrosa is the only Spanish rider ever to have won the three GP races in Spain in a single year. This was in 2005 when he won in Jerez, Montmeló & Cheste.

… every year Cheste is the venue for the first tests of the season, just the day after the Valencia GP is held.

… The circuit in Valencia is hosting its 10th ever GP race, and so to commemorate this landmark a special trophy will be given to each of the three winners.

…the circuit gets its name from Ricardo Tormo the World Motorcycling Champion from Valencia, who had a serious accident when he was training at an industrial estate and was forced to retire. Tormo was Spanish 50cc Champion three times, four times Spanish 125cc Champion and two times World 50cc Champion.

… in addition to the races in the MotoGP championship Cheste hosts the Spanish Superbikes GP, tests for Formula 1, the GP2 Series, as well as rounds in the World Tour Car Championship and races in Spanish Formula 3.

… this circuit was the venue for a Madonna concert during her latest ‘Sticky & Sweet Tour’, last 18th September.

… during its construction two Roman villas were unearthed and the work had to stop. One of them was inspected and the remains transferred to the Instituto de Estudios Comarcales de Buñol, the other was left just as it was because it had no great historic value. Its position can be seen from the olive tree that was planted to mark its location.
