The Japanese company, at the start of its first year as single tyre supplier for all the MotoGP teams, has not had any good weather for the first few races of the 2009 season. Three of the four races held so far this season have been in the rain, and the most recent in Le Mans, was the most chaotic. However, the bosses at Bridgestone are pleased with how things are panning out so far this season.
The French date was another big challenge for the tyre manufacturer. The race started on a wet track that was slowly drying out. Bridgestone does not supply intermediate type tyres this year and so the riders began the race on wet tyres and ended on slicks.
The person responsible for the development of Bridgestone competition tyres, Tohru Ubukata, emphasised the good performance offered by both the wet tyres as well as by the slicks in a race in which the riders did not miss the intermediate compounds.
“Our tyre for the wet proved to be very durable – he explained – I am pleased with the result. And the slicks gave a good performance when the track was still wet. We have therefore seen that with these two types of compounds we can cover all types of conditions during a race weekend”.
