Insulate your garden fountain and avoid leaks

Garden fountains are popular, but they must be insulated correctly, using effective materials and waterproofing agents which prevent leaks. The perfect material for this purpose is roofing felt, since it allows you to use no end of coverings.

You may be thinking about putting a fountain in your garden,  but you should consider a few things first. This is a decorative element that brings cool air and added value to our green spaces. There are no end of designs, made from all sorts of materials, in numerous styles, amongst which you will undoubtedly find one that suits your tastes and preferences. However, without any doubt, the most important point when planning the installation of a fountain is achieving good insulation.

There are several effective, waterproof materials which will fulfil the desired objective, but the fact is that we should not only assess its functionality as an insulator, but also its compatibility with other types of covering which are appropriate for our fountain. One of the most suitable materials, bearing in mind the aforementioned aspect, is roofing felt, since it resists excavation work, insulates perfectly from water and can be used with practically any building or decorative materials, such as gresite, a popular option for garden fountains.

Opting for roofing felt

There are different types of roofing felt and it is very easy to install, either on garden fountains or roofs, balconies and patios. The important thing is to choose the right type for your purpose; to do this, you should speak to an expert or a member of staff at the nursery or DIY store where you buy your fountain. They will tell you which type of roofing felt you should use in order to guarantee the impermeability of your fountain and avoid leaks.

Once you have purchased the product, it will require very little effort to install it correctly.
The first thing that you must do is clean the surface on which you are going to place the roofing felt thoroughly. Then you apply a specific paint, called lithol, which has waterproofing and anti-rust properties, using a paintbrush.

When the paint dries, you apply an asphalt primer; then you must apply heat using a blowtorch to melt the primer so that the roofing felt attaches to the surface that you wish to insulate.

To finish off, you must tap the felt lightly until you think that it is perfectly attached to the specific area. Leave it for a day and then cover the roofing felt with the chosen material. Your garden fountain will be perfectly insulated, and if you have carried out the procedure correctly, you will be able to enjoy an interesting decorative element, without annoying leaks.
