Because they gave everything and continue to do so. Because they bring their wisdom, experience and affection to families and society in general. Because they are important and still have a lot to say. Grandparents deserve love, respect and recognition.
As such, the Golden Age Peace Messengers Association, in collaboration with institutions, councils and other bodies celebrates Grandparents’ Day on 26 July.
This date, which coincides with Saint Anne and Saint Joachim’s Day, will once more serve to celebrate and thank grandparents for their dedication, love and understanding. Functions will be held at the Montserrá Caballé Home, located in Barajas Madrid and will be attended by Lina Morgan as the patroness of the event.
All elderly people wishing to attend the event are invited to come as are their companions. The main events of the day will include a mass, the presenting of diplomas to Golden Grandparents by the authorities, a lunch for the attendees, as well as performances by dance groups and regional dances.
The Golden Age Peace Messengers Association supports the institutionalisation of this day, in the same way that we traditionally celebrate Fathers’ and Mothers’ Days. They are seeking to transmit human values such as respect and love for elderly people, given that it is an important and inherent part of our society.
The importance of grandparents
Grandparents are very important in modern families. They help look after their grandchildren, in the case of those families where the father and mother both work. They give their knowledge, wisdom, life experience, and form part of the country’s culture and tradition. They are a point of reference in the first steps of family members, in grandchildren’s games, disobedience, happiness, punishments, birthdays and many more sensations.
They act as parents on numerous occasions with all of their love and dedication, so as to educate their grandchildren with the tenderness that they deserve so that they discover life without traumas or complexes, helping them in every way they can, even improving certain things that they know due to experience must be handled differently, remembering the mistakes they made with their own children.
For all of these reasons, 26 July can be a good opportunity to show them the important role they play in family life. It is about showing them gratitude for sharing happiness, showing affection, tenderness and love, etc. It must not be forgotten that on many occasions this group lives alone and is defenceless. As such, a day with them makes a big contribution to their happiness, and gives them a little boost.
In this way, it is necessary for modern society to be more informed and show its support for the elderly. Praising the figure of the grandmother and the grandfather is to show special affection for that important person in our childhood memories, lovely people who we have infuriated on numerous occasions, who we may even remember having made cry with emotion and happiness. Their big heart deserves everything.
